Whole-Home Air Quality Assessment | Frisco, TX
You know something's off with your air. Maybe it's the headaches that clear up when you leave the house. Maybe it's the dust that reappears hours after you clean. Maybe it's a musty smell from the vents that air fresheners can't mask. Or maybe your family's allergy symptoms have gotten noticeably worse since you moved into your Frisco home.
The problem is, you can't fix what you can't identify. Indoor air quality problems have dozens of possible causes — and the solution that works for one issue can be completely wrong for another. Throwing money at a UV light when your real problem is leaky ductwork pulling attic insulation fibers into your air doesn't solve anything. That's why we start with an assessment.
What We Evaluate During an Air Quality Assessment
Your HVAC System's Filtration: We check your current filter type, MERV rating, condition, and whether it's properly sealed in its housing. You'd be surprised how many homes have filters installed incorrectly — air bypasses the filter entirely through gaps around the edges, and the homeowner doesn't realize their "new filter" is doing almost nothing.
Ductwork Condition: We inspect accessible ductwork for leaks, disconnections, and contamination. Leaky ducts in an unconditioned attic can pull in insulation particles, dust, and extreme heat or cold. Disconnected ducts mean you're cooling your attic instead of your bedroom. And ducts that haven't been cleaned in decades accumulate layers of dust, pet hair, and potentially mold that get blown into your living spaces every time the system runs.
Humidity Levels: North Texas homes frequently struggle with humidity, especially during the cooling season. Indoor humidity above 60% promotes mold growth, dust mite reproduction, and that heavy, uncomfortable feeling. Humidity below 30% (common in winter) causes dry skin, static electricity, and respiratory irritation. We measure your home's humidity levels and assess whether your system is controlling moisture effectively.
Visible Mold and Contamination: We inspect the evaporator coil, drain pan, and accessible areas of your air handler for mold growth. The evaporator coil gets cold and wet during cooling — it's essentially a dark, damp cave inside your system. Without proper drainage and treatment (like UV light), mold colonies can develop and distribute spores throughout your home.
Carbon Monoxide and Combustion Safety: For homes with gas furnaces, water heaters, or gas ranges, we check for proper combustion venting and test for carbon monoxide — an odorless, colorless gas that kills hundreds of Americans every year. This isn't strictly an "air quality" service in the filtration sense, but it's the most critical air safety check we perform.
What We Recommend (and What We Don't)
After the assessment, we give you a straightforward explanation of what we found and what solutions match your specific issues. If a simple filter upgrade solves your problem, that's what we recommend. If your ductwork is contaminated and needs professional cleaning, we'll tell you. If UV light or an electronic air cleaner would make a meaningful difference for your family, we'll explain exactly why and show you the options.
What we don't do is recommend solutions you don't need. If your air quality is fine and your system is working properly, we'll tell you that too. We'd rather earn your trust by being honest than make a quick sale on a product that won't benefit you.
When to Schedule an Assessment
Consider an air quality assessment if you're experiencing persistent allergy or respiratory symptoms at home, noticing excessive dust buildup, smelling musty or stale odors from your vents, moving into a new (or new-to-you) home and want to know what you're breathing, or planning an air quality upgrade and want professional guidance on what will actually help.
