Why Do I Need To Do Maintenance On My HVAC Systems?

What is HVAC maintenance and why is it important in Northwest Arkansas?

A homeowner’s HVAC system is one of the most expensive and crucial mechanical components of their home. Just like vehicles, machinery, and other mechanical equipment, your HVAC system needs regular maintenance to operate at its best and to last as long as possible.

At Varsity Zone HVAC, we live by a maintenance-first mindset. Meaning, we prefer to begin a relationship with our customers in Rogers, Arkansas by maintaining their current HVAC system and helping it last as long as possible. We provide an honest system assessment, and we do not push unnecessary replacements or repairs, as we understand that most people want to get as much out of their current HVAC system as they can. By doing routine maintenance, we help extend the equipment’s lifespan and prevent headaches from preventable breakdowns during the hot Northwest Arkansas summers and cold winters.

Should everyone do maintenance on their AC systems in Northwest Arkansas?

Yes, we always recommend that homeowners use a trusted HVAC company to properly maintain their systems. This is especially true for AC systems that are older than 5 years old. As HVAC equipment ages, dirt builds up, components start to fail, and small problems can lead to very big problems. Preventative maintenance helps an HVAC system last longer, reduces electricity bills, and ultimately helps prevent costly repair bills down the road.

What is included in an HVAC maintenance from Varsity Zone HVAC?

Our maintenance plan members in Springdale, Rogers, Bentonville, and surrounding Northwest Arkansas cities receive a maintenance visit twice per year. We take our time at each maintenance visit to provide a high-quality tune-up service to check the system and prepare it for the hot Arkansas summer or cold winter ahead.

During the spring, we focus on the Air Conditioning side to ensure that the AC is ready for the hot Northwest Arkansas summer ahead. This includes:

  • Cleaning the outdoor condenser (the equipment that sits outside of your home)
    • We thoroughly clean entire outdoor system, condenser coil and indoor evaporator coil. A simple cleaning will save on electricity bills and help the system work better and last longer. Dirt buildup causes an AC system to work harder and is the quickest way to shorten its lifespan. Customers will also benefit from savings on electricity bills – a clean system requires less energy to operate.
  • Test all critical components of the AC system
    • Many components within an AC will show signs of failure before they give out. By catching these ahead of time, it saves a homeowner the headache of a breakdown during the peak summer months when they need their AC the most.
  • Clean the indoor coil
    • Inside your home, there is another coil called an Evaporator Coil that works together with the outdoor unit. It is essential to keep this coil clean.
  • Check the condensate drain line for blockage and clear it out
    • During the winter when the AC is not being used, blockages can build up in the drain line as moisture sits dormant. If left unaddressed, water buildup can occur and cause damage to the system or to the floor or ceiling, or it will cause the system to shut off. We prevent this by clearing out the drain line with high pressure nitrogen and place a drain tab in the drain line to help clear out buildup.

During the Fall, we focus on the Heating side of the HVAC system to prepare it for the cold weather that will arrive in Springdale over the winter.

  • Clean and check all critical components of the heating system
    • Similar to an Air Conditioner, the heating system relies on a handful of crucial components. Often, failures can be prevented with routine maintenance, so you are not stuck without heating during the cold Northwest Arkansas winter when you need it most.
    • Test and inspect system for any carbon monoxide leaks to ensure safety.
    • Measure gas pressures in system to lengthen the life of your furnace and optimize heating.
